July 4th - Independence Day in the USA in haiku ..

in the early dawn -
 lingering haze of burst bombs..
 yet, our Flag stands tall.

view from friend's balcony 2012

A whiff of sulphur..
My nostrils twitch as I lean
Into the warm night

Independence Day
wanes into a dusky dark.
Boom! Colors explode..

2010 fireworks experienced downtown

The night turns sultry.
Sweat trickles down my sternum
As I sip sweat tea..

These haiku were not intended to be a set.
They were meant to stand on their own haiku feet .. :)

Wonderful! It's like I'm there again. And, even as I am, with my tastes, Gershwin is favorably remembered as well. *swing* Plus, piano? Yum!

"boom" is such a great descriptive word... Even colorful :-D

Gershwin is pretty terrific, isn't be. He lived right through that jaza and art deco era.

and it fit into the last 5 syllable count too. :)

Well, you've pretty much completely described the common experience of the 4th of July in this country. Except for the sweet tea. That's a southern thing...

(I remember taking a gulp of iced tea at my first husband's parents' house in Georgia and being taken by surprise at the taste.)

Your sweet tea was probably too sweet. I usually cut it with unsweetened tea if available. But I do like it sweetened which is funny since I like my coffee black, no sugar.
