Next Monday's Haiku Theme - Sultry

Useless Movie Quotes - Throw Momma from the Train:

Larry Donner:

The night was hot, wait no, the night, the night was humid. The night was humid, no wait, hot, hot. The night was hot. The night was hot and wet, wet and hot. The night was wet and hot, hot and wet, wet and hot; that's humid. The night was humid.
-----
Larry Donner:

The night was dry, yet it was raining.
-----
Mrs. Lift:

The night was sultry.

Thanks to Rafael, I have the pleasure of hosting this upcoming Haiku Monday.

The theme for this Monday is SULTRY.  Last night, in my neck of the woods, our previously cool nights turned into a rather wet and hot, humid ... sultry, baking, broiling, burning, close mucky, muggy, oppressive, red-hot, scorching, sizzling, smothering, soggy, sticky, stifling, stuffy, suffocating, sweltering, sweltry, torrid, wet, etc. etc .... night .... sort of.  It will only get worse.

Of course, as we are all aware, sultry does not only apply to the weather, it can also mean "hawt" (click the hawt link if for some reason you are clueless) or yummy as the irrepressible and funny Rafael is fond of saying.  (Have any of you googled images for the word hot or sultry?  Just sayin' here.  But I want to know ... Where are the men?  tsk.... ).

Please follow the 5-7-5 format.  All can participate.  Enter as many haiku as you like, but choose two to judge.  If you would like to enter without participating in the competition be my guest.  Just let me know.  Non haiku poems (not for competition purposes, of course) based on the theme are also welcome.. have at it!

Entries will be accepted until midnightish PST or until I wake up Tuesday during the wee morning hours.  I'm flexible. Oh, and before I forget, let me know if you are posting on your blog with visuals.

HaHa! Lord have mercy on my blasphemous heart; I LOVE THIS!

Should I ask permission first, or just apologize after I post? Not sure if I can keep mine outta the blue!

Already munch'n on some lines that may just uncurl your curlies. Might have to have mine Mother approved before I hit send...

Lawdy, Lawdy, Lawdy...

Now I have googled sultry :-)

I will read the result of this sultry competition, waiting...

Rafa,
Just put aside your worries. I occasionally can do bawdy myself. Here's a limerick I wrote a couple of years ago.

Now way down in old hot Savannah
Anna gripped an aged banana .. :)
Quite limp and soft to her touch
She jerked it with mighty clutch
It stiffened and Bill yelled Hosanna!

So, have at it!

Rolf,
Cool!
I'm hoping to get a variety of interpretations on the theme

moi said...

LOL to Rafael. Can't wait :o)

Great theme. Definitely worthy of some long consideration.

Hotly dryly wetly. Ish.

I think this post also means that you won the last haiku competition. Congratulations on that!

The comments are so juicy, I can't wait to read the up-coming entries.

Boxer said...

great pick. I'm in.

Rafael said...

Foam:

HA! LOVE the limerick! I've never written one of those before...may need to add it to my repertoire. I figure, if me and my large American penis can write a Japanese haiku, my non-Iris eyes a shine'n can toss out a few bawdy lines for some shts and giggles! YEEHAW!!!

Rafa

P.S. I think I made my mom blush (can you blush through a telephone line?) and now she thinks you're encouraging my bad behavior. No worries, though, I told her I don't need any encouragement. HaHa!!

Ah, it worked. Blogger has been hateful lately.

I didn't think I had anything for "sultry." Then I remembered those 20 years I lived in Georgia.

Be back later.

foam said...

Czar,
I'm glad you are in! I always enjoy your haiku.

Serendipity,
Oh, this one made me feel the fluttering heartbeat of the eaglet! I don't know what it is with blogger at times either.
I'll be over soon.

Rafa,

Your talking to your mother? Lord have mercy .. lol.
Kind of touching though. My oldest only calls me when he's needy.
Limericks can be fun. You should try your hand at them. They don't have to be lewd or bawdy though.

foam said...

Boxer,
Yay!

Carol,
I do hope folks will participate. I always enjoy reading the different takes on the same subject matter.

foam said...

Cosmo,
Hey, that's 7 syllables. Now all you need are five for the top and five for the bottom.

Moi,
It will be interesting for sure. :)

You win! Competition is over. :0)
You get to host next week.

Just kidding of course, but you did make me smile.

(1) Here's to a good experience as a host.

(2) I remember that movie. I remember thinking, Why not just say "It was a dark and stormy night" and get over with it?

(3) Regarding your previous post, how do we know you have a tan unless we see tan lines? For all we know, you photoshopped your skin to look darker than your shorts. Would it hurt ya to lift up a sleeve or something?

Karl said...

Good evening phone

This should be quite fun. Your limerick was good for a grin.

It reminds me to say
But, with children away.
A father's mind is on their mommy.
If I don't make it back please cut me some slack.
For I'll be chasing after mommy;)

All consuming heat
It's torrid burn engulfs
Weather was hot too

Sonorous silence ..
Ululating tree frog choir.
Moist skin, night air goosed.

Karl said...

Please excuse "phone" instead of "Foam".

Sometimes auto-correct drives me nuts.

foam said...

X.dell,

1. Thanks. I will.

2. Exactly what I thought too.

3. But my previous post wasn't about tan lines. It was about bill the cat and sundry other stuff, but not that! But I suppose every once in a while I could lift my sleeve .. :)

foam said...

Karl,
I instantly figured that for an auto correct mishap. Just recently I offered to help a friend moony instead of move .. :).

I love your 'childless poem'! I so get it. A few years ago I devoted a whole post to being childless and finally alone with my husband (pinetop swamp).
And I really love that your poem sets up your haiku. I don't think I would have thought to do that. I hope you have more torrid encounters this weekend!

foam said...

Pinetop!

Nice haiku! Glad you were inspired.

Here's my first. I think it would work better with a visual:

Scorching performance
Not Whistlin’ Dixie when she
Put lips together.

foam said...

boxer,

i like it! but who's scorching performance? various artists come to mind.

becca said...

here are my two entry for everyone's' enjoyment but not for competing.

Lips as red as blood
Beauty that blinds like the sun
heart as cold as ice

Sun sultry and hot
sweat pouring down like raindrops
I shiver from cold

hope you like.

Aunty Belle said...

oh dear. Forgit it, Pinetop takes it.

moi said...

Ditto to Aunty! Although, I feel like maybe I can shake something loose today. Maybe :o)

foam said...

Love the sultry steamy night by serendipity!
Come on you 2, moi and aunty. Shake those 'ku loose!

foam said...

And becca, thanks for your entries! I like!

Boxer said...

Lauren Bacall. See, the visual is necessary. I'm with Aunty and Moi.

Boxer said...

does Pinetop have a bloggy?

foam said...

Lauren Bacall! The essence of sultry, indeed.

Nope, pinetop does not have a blog although I've encouraged him to have one many times. Pinetop Swamp is my husband and I'm really not sure if I should judge his haiku.

BlazngScarlet said...

Here's my first ...

Catching fireflies
Wet sheet of humidity
Summer night magic

I'm working on a second one ....but i'm not sure if it'll be done in time.

Foam:
You said to put my worries aside...are you worried????

I offer you two:

Slip'ry knot is tied
Lapping 'long her luxury
Sultry petals bloom

Satyr's sultry sway
Writhes erotic; savagely
Lath'ring us a deux

I have visuals at: http://ramblingsfrommytyper.blogspot.com/2012/06/haiku-monday-afoso.html. However, please note, some (all?) are of an adult nature. Only go with an open mind.

Pinetops's was GREAT, but I'm more about the journey than the win. I say judge him like the rest, and borrow him your blog if it tickles ya' as right.

I'm loving them haiku so far!!!

BlazngScarlet said...

Here's my second entry ...

Passion overtakes
Slamming loins against the wall
Years of want renewed

I'm up ... with visuals.

grins said...

I wonder if you can call in sick with a slammed loin.

grins said...

I'm afraid to look at your visuals Raf.

Boxer, I used to know a girl that could...never mind.

CoreyJo said...

No visuals this week for mine since I'm working from mobile only for a bit while the remodeling drags on... anyways, here's mine.

Heat radiating
Thick and heavy was his musk.
His essence sultry.

Good luck all!
CoreyJo

foam said...

Okay, nice showing all. Sometime today I'll get this written up.

Grin, never having had a slammed loin, I really don't know.

Aunty Belle said...

foam said...

No worries, aunty. It's in. Like I said, I'm flexible and I'm very happy that you participated. And normally during the summer I get up around 8 anyway .. Just not this morning ..
:).
I'm already feeling a bit dewey this morning. I think it's gonna be a hot one today.

foam said...

But Now, at 8:30 in the am the competition is closed.

moi said...

Ooooo, Aunty. Good one. Only, yuck. I hate that feeling of bugs on skin.
