items in reflected surface are stranger then they appear ....

and now on to wishing everybody a

Happy New Year!

Be always at war with your vices,
at peace with your neighbors,
and let each new year find you a better man.
  ~Benjamin Franklin

 ...or woman...
~foam

personally, for me ...

I'm planning on embracing my vices since
I'm not going to do a whole lot about them anyway.

May your life and mine be filled with
quality no guilt slothfullness ..

quality no guilt gluttonizing  ..

all in it's proper balance, of course,
and all with the people we love.

....

Anybody have any plans for New Years Eve?
I don't ..

I'm a middle aged ole biddy ..
I'll probably just hit the sack before midnight.

:-)

looking for music to go with this post:

the choices are:

my husband's christmas present music to himself
(i'm not sure i'm in a punk mode right now)

my youngest son's christmas music to himself
(this might do .... i love gould's renditions of bach)

however, i'm still on my raconteur kick
so, this is it..

I had never heard of Glenn Gould, and I was mesmerized by his playing and his unique posture and movements. So I had to Googled him. I never knew! Thank you! I haven't considered myself a classical music type, but Gould makes Bach into magic.

My plan for New Year's Eve is to have quality no guilt slothful, gluttonizing dreams as 2011 retires.

Happy New Year to you and your family, Ms. Foam.

Carol, here is to a slothful new years then! Bach and Gould are absolute favorites of my youngster.

Hey, now! Looks like you and I share some musical taste. I will always be in the mood for punk (Bad Brains don't get nearly enough love), although I'm not so sure how that will look on me when I'm 80. And don't even get me started on my long-time love of all things Jack White-helmed.

We haven't stayed up past midnight in ages, either, but a restaurant down the road started holding a 5-course NYE's wine dinner about four years ago, and we've gone to that every year. Will do it again this year, invite a bunch of friends, hope the cops are still napping by the time we hit the road for home at 9:30.

Terrific sentiments for the New Year. I hope yours is filled with love and joy and guilt-free everything!

Moi,
I'll think Bad Brains will probably suit our mood just fine when we are 80. I wasn't very familiar with them until Mr Foam brought a CD home just recently. I liked much of what I heard. I do love Jack White.

We have often had plans for New Years, but not this year it seems and that suits me just fine. However, on the 1st we will go to our annual hair of the dog party .. :) .. (although I never actually feel the hair of the dog.)

I planned to start a new health kick for New Year's, however my preferred medical advisor is still being unfairly blamed for Michael Jackson's demise.

foam said...

But pug, you don't need that quack to start your new health regimen. You can ruin your health all on your own. If you need any tips, I can give you some.

I had Gould on my blog some months ago. Your youngsters taste are excellent. And your hubby is a punk rocker and he likes Beatles too. I listened to Patti Smith's in the 70's and I was considered weird. Now everyone likes her, it is weird.

And next summer Bruce Springsteen will be at our arena here (twice). He is there more often then I am. He is good but now I think it is a bit ... I can't find the word...

Happy New Year Foam! It was this time last when when you first appeared on my Blog Radar and you've been a great addition in 2011. My plans are very low key; Mr Boxer's cousin (and people we consider close friends)are coming to the Island. I think it will be a traditional Beach Walk at midnight and this year? Watching Henry and drinking. Happy Happy New Year to you and yours! :-)

foam said...

Rolf,
I think I remember you posting Gould. He's great, isn't he?
yeah! Mr foam is a rocker at heart. .. And a punier, I suppose. Neil young is his hero.

foam said...

Rolf, I have seen Bruce a few times. He is great, but it is also a lot of work listening to his music ..... There is a certain type of fan of his that gets on my nerves when they sit by me at a concert.

foam said...

Tinker,
Yep, my palms exactly, although we are planning on going out tomorrow night.

Have fun with your movie!

foam said...

/t.,
Sure! A lot of good stuff can happen in the sack before midnight! Have fun!

foam said...

Chickory,
Yes, you are one of my oldest Mates. And it has just been a real treat blogging with you. I actually do have one goal for sometime in the future. Xdell was the first blogger I met. Mayden was the second. You will have to be my third ....
And then ...... Who knows?

Lx, Gleichfalls! Prost Neujahr!

foam said...

Boxer, yes, it has been a year. Do you know that I still have that garland hanging? Your plans sound divine!
Have a great sea foamy new year with good relatives and friends.

Happy New Year, Foamie!

I spent the night alone, doing some writing and a new year's ritual. There is a lot I need to change in my life and I've already started working on the things that keep me from being happy...but it was a good night to reinforce my wishes.

This weekend I'm doing lots of cooking for my wheat free January (hopefully all of 2012 but I have to take it bit by bit)

Also cleaning out the house and making room for the new.

Neil Young was like a friend to me when I was alone at home.

foam said...

Pink! Good to see you around. Hope you have a wonderful wheat free January. That is a good thing to do especially if one has problems digesting the stuff.

Mage,

Thanks and a happy new year to you too.

Mo, bottoms uo to you too! That must hail from the days when glasses were rounded at the bottom and you turned them over to signal to the pub owner or serving lass that you needed a refill.

Belle,
I am the master of dumbing things down. That is why there are no resolutions. I would have broken every single one by now.

Rolf,
I am thinking you and the mr foam might get along rather well.

But, then, I wish good things for you every day anyway.

Jean,
Eh...I'm definitely a slacker too. I have been slack with my blog as well as visiting other blogs. I do also wish you well... Daily..

Pamela, yeah, that is so right! He did enjoy his vices.

Aunty, yeah .... Been slack .. Involved with other things. We are fine here. I took a peak on google reader and saw that uncles shooting arm as well as his ticke are now okay. I will come by soon to visit.

Foamy dear I am so sorry for getting here so late, I must have missed this post altogether.
All I can say is that my computer has been behaving badly and last night decided to die on me. I don't know when or if it can be repaired. Tonight I am borrowing my son's computer, I cannot access any e-mails, I don't now if an of my documents or images still exist.
Anyway you know I would always wish you the very best for the New Year, for any year.
Love from your friend Dianne. xoxoxo ♡

I had an exciting New Year's eve, I sat up with my three cats and watched the fireworks on TV. I could not even have a celebratory toast of champagne or something alcoholic and sparkly as I was taking a course of antibiotics for an infection. So I guess I am the middle aged ole biddy!
Loved this post, some great advice.:)

To quote Oscar Wilde, never trust a woman who has no redeeming vice.

Gould was one of my favorite classical pianists. He was a master at bringing out the inner voices of counterpoint, and this especially shows in his Bach performances.

The man went too young, sadly.

Whew! Not being a potato makes me happy, indeed.

Boxer, See above comment........

Lx, and a smooch to you too!

Xl, I do love Gould. He is also my youngest son's favorite.
I don't know where I have gone wrong. But this son of mine has been composing music. ... Some of it in counterpoint.

Prism, it's always my pleasure to visit your blog.

Dianne, ya, just don't know what to post lately. I do love to visit your blog though to get my blogging fix. This goes for my other blogging buddies too.

Auntie, boxer ... Done did that. Always fun when I can think of a haiku.

Pink, wheat free is a good thing for many people. Maybe I should give it a try although I would surely hate to give up those cookies. :)

carol, I think I still am. I do still have lights lit outside after all. I do, I really do. At least we ate not the only ones in the neighborhood though.

foam said...

Dianne, and thanks for the new years wishes. The year, as carol mentions is not so very old. Of course, I have been very remiss in any kind of blogging.

Aunty Belle said...

Reckon that scarf will keep yore neck warm, but put yore hair up so it will show off that nice long neck.

Aunty Belle said...

No? ok, the turtlneck is enough wif' that good coat --skip the scarf, an go fer a hat instead. Makes a statement of sorts, ya know?

Aunty Belle said...

No no.. fergit throwin' in a load of laundry afore ya go. Stop runnin' around. It can wait. Jes' sip that cawfee fer 5 peaceful minutes afore ya run off into the world.

Luvin' ya from afar, Foamy!!

foam said...

Auntie,
Actually, you would be welcome any old time.
I reckon I have run out of gas as far as material for blogging goes. My life is fairly boring. Absolutely no fun writing or reading about it.
Perhaps I could post a doodle or two..

foam said...

Auntie,
Dance! Now that might be an idea ....

foam said...

Auntie,
I love cardinals. They are actually our state bird.

foam said...

Auntie, I would have loved to have had a cuppa joe. However, I was getting ready to head out of the door.

foam said...

Auntie,
How'd ya know I was wearing a scarf? (looking around suspiciously now).

I don't have a long neck though.

foam said...

Auntie,
Actually I do have a killer hat. Can't wear turtlenecks. They make me feel claustrophobic.

foam said...

Auntie, at 7:02 I was getting in the car. I put a load of laundry in at night.

foam said...

Auntie,
I adore hot tea and crumpets. I came home and snacked on a hearshaped donut and had a cup of green tea.

foam said...

Auntie, now you know I love you too. You are really so sweet to post these comments. They made the end of my day.

Ps: and. I reckon I'll post something before the week is over. I might post a doodle or something like ha.

Aunty Belle said...
